things to see and do

  • The spot where Jaime I landed is marked with the Cruz de la Conquista, a large cross on the headland, and if you climb up to it youll be rewarded with great views.
  • From Santa Ponsas marina you can enjoy the view of yachts and fishing boats, as well as the picturesque scenery. There are lots of bars and restaurants, and even designer shops.
  • Take a boat trip round the bay to admire the views, or to try your hand at sea-fishing.
  • If you're a keen scuba-diver, there's a scuba diving centre in the marina and don't miss the nearby Malgrat Islands.
  • Keen golfers looking for a challenge can play on a championship golf course in Santa Ponsa it hosts the Balearic Open, but is also open to visitors and you can hire clubs and trolleys.
  • If you have a car, head up the coast to the beautiful little towns of Deia and Valldemossa. There are stunning views on the way, too..

after dark

  • The Fama nightclub is popular with locals as well as visitors, especially at weekends. Theres a good mix of Spanish and international music, along with a cocktail bar and two dance floors.
  • Caramba is a large international club with live entertainment for families and fun party nights.
  • Aha has a DJ playing different types of dance music, a lively bar with a wide selection of cocktails, and a pool table.
  • Shots Bar is a lively place with lots of special cocktails, as well as a pool table and an outside terrace.

in the shops

  • You'll have plenty of souvenir shops to choose from in the Spanish Square. There are two Euro Perfumerias in the centre of town, which have the best prices for perfume.
  • Visit the Lacoste shop (near the Spanish Square) for designer clothes at amazing prices.
  • The nearest market takes place in Andratx every Wednesday morning, where you can pick up lace tablecloths and leather goods at bargain prices.

  • If you want to try a traditional Spanish restaurant, make it Mesón del Rey. It has a pleasant setting, with pavement tables in a quiet back street, the food is excellent, and the prices are reasonable.
  • For a special occasion, book a table at Oeste and enjoy its unusual menu.
  • Mrs Murphys Kitchen serves international and British food, and a tasty breakfast menu.
  • Popular with the locals, El Ciebo is a cosy steakhouse where all the meats are flame-grilled.
  • Takume is a large international restaurant. Prices are very reasonable and its a great place for all the family, with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful views of the sea.
  • Electric Beach is an entertaining family bar serving childrens cocktails. It also has a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids.
  • Scottish football fans should make straight for Jaggy Thistle, where you can watch soccer live on TV all week. There are also karaoke nights and quizzes twice a week.
  • Strings is a very friendly pub, with live entertainment.
  • Durty Nellys is a traditional Irish pub, with entertainment from Irish bands and a lively atmosphere.
  • Seans Bar is a traditional Irish pub with live music. Its relaxed and friendly atmosphere make it great for families. Open 24 hours.
