The main sandy beach is backed by pine woods, where you can take a break in the shade on hot days, but it gets very busy at weekends when local families come here for the day. There are lots of watersports, including windsurfing and jet-skiing - but these are not allowed within the roped-off area, which is for swimmers only.
On the way to the marina theres a smaller beach, set in its own sheltered cove. Its good for children, as the sea is shallow but again, it gets crowded at weekends.
Take a walk along the seafront to the small coves further round the bay but be warned, its not an easy path for young children.
A safety area for swimming is normally roped off and it is recommended that you do not swim outside this area. It is forbidden to use pedalos, windsurfers, boats and jet skis in this area.
The main sandy beach is separated from the pinewoods by the recently constructed promenade. The pinewoods provide excellent relief from the sun on extremely hot days. But do not expect to get a place to shelter on Sundays because the woods are packed with Spanish families who come to Santa Ponsa for the day.

Sunbeds and parasols on the beach can be hired on a daily basis. The attendants, who will collect your money from you shortly after you take occupation of a sunbed, also have pedalos for hire. And for the more adventurous there is the sausage ride which is located at the south end of the beach.
The main beach is reasonably large and has the usual variety of water sports available for hire. It should be noted that the beach is popular with both tourists and locals and does become crowded in high season. There's also a smaller beach, set in its own sheltered cove, about 15 minutes walk away which can be reached from the Avinguda Rei Jaume I.
Regular boat trips run from the beach at a cost of around £10 and are excellent value for money.
